Karen Haynes “Viewpoints” series is made up of cloud/landscape and still life images. My imagery floats, reflects, and explores contradictions. In still life, compositions look at vulnerabilities and strengths, and reflect the passages of time and circumstance. The cloud/landscapes pare down open spaces to more intimate views of clouds passing, reflections of unseen elements in quiet backwater ponds and birds pausing. Eliminating horizon lines, I use grids and meridian lines as counterpoint – an opportunity to play off an abstract element. My goal is to use composition, color, texture, and mark making to create a compelling and beautiful surface.
